Espresso Program

The summer program for Amati and Vuillaume students will consist of four virtual workshops (“espressos”). The workshops will be inspired by the following themes:

June 15-19:   Ireland, Scotland
June 29-July 3:   Eastern Europe
July 13-17:   Italy, Spain
August 10-14:   France

Each workshop will have the following elements:
1. Technique & literacy, including arpeggios, double stops, shifting, etc.
2. Some songs from the region in diverse styles;
3. One creative related to the theme.

The workshops will be presented on pre-recorded video, so students can watch and learn the songs on whatever schedule works best for them.

I will send out videos at the beginning of each workshop week and can be used as the foundation for daily practice.

We’ll have a live online play-in at 4 p.m. Friday of each workshop week. If parents agree, we may do one of these at a park with social distancing.

$360 workshop tuition
Two weeks of 120 min/ week with a senior student are included with tuition. These can be used during or between workshops. Additional weeks of practice coaching $70 / week.

Macchiato Program

Guarnerius and Stradivarius students will spend alternate weeks working intensively on a major work. Each virtual workshop (“macchiato”) will also include music theory and composition, improv, and a creative project. Various visiting artists and composers will teach in addition to Miss Winters.

The first piece listed each week is for Guarnerius students; the second is for Stradivarius students.

June 22-26: Handel Sonata / Wieniawski Concerto #2
July 6-10: Veracini Gigue / Franck Sonata
July 20-24: Corelli La Follia / Dvorak Concerto

We’ll meet afternoons, with little breaks between and within classes to stay balanced and refreshed.

2:15  Stradivarius repertoire || Guarnerius practice

Students can choose whether to do a week-long project or a larger project that is completed over three sessions.

Because skills will be cumulative, participation in all sessions is strongly encouraged. May 25 registration deadline / $20 add’l per workshop after deadline

$200 each for 3 workshops
$240 each for 1-2 workshops

Cortado Program

Amati and Vuillaume students will be working with a senior student to support their independent learning during the summer. Students can get help refining workshop material as well as their other songs. Practice coaches will be trained by Miss Winters, who will oversee the coaching sessions and provide mentoring.

Cortado sessions will be offered from June 15 through August 14. Two sessions are included with the Espresso program.

$70 / week for 120 minutes of virtual coaching (this compensates both the coach and Miss Winters for their time). Students must participate in at the Espresso program to be eligible, as this will provide the foundation for your work with the coach.

Registration for Cortado sessions must be received by June 6. Registration will close after this date.
